Mountainfilm

40 Years

Mountainfilm – 40 Years is a ‘souvenir’ from the French word meaning remembrance or memory. This edition was written as a souvenir for Mountainfilm’s 40th anniversary.

The book is a remembrance of Mountainfilm’s alpinist roots and in memoriam for some of the courageous adventurers of indomitable spirit who were summoned to the mountains. Mountainfilm is a reminder to us of mountain cultures, some vital and some endangered. We remember climbers and explorers who have been lost in the majesty and fury of nature. The beauty and wonder of the world’s mountain scenery inspire us to protect our environment. This book is a record of the journey taken by Mountainfilm, illustrated with photos, paper memorabilia, posters, and brochures.

Mountainfilm reflects the values held by the community of people who reside in Telluride, whether as full-time residents or second homeowners. It is a homegrown, locally managed non-profit organization with roots in the San Juans. Mountainfilm depends on a group of local volunteers to fuel the frenzy of the four-day Festival each year.

Beginning with a small selection of films intended to examine mountain subjects and man’s relation to them, Mountainfilm now hosts more than 100 films annually. The four-day celebration has grown to include a gallery walk, book fair, filmmaker’s dinner, coffee talks, booze n’ banter discussions, adrenaline programs, late-night parties, free outdoor programming, an ice cream social, and a closing awards picnic.

An Extra: 100% of the purchase of this book goes to benefit the non-profit organization of Mountainfilm.
